GRIFTER’S TALES
WHISTLER · OCTOBER 2026
By Colin Lee MacLeod
I asked for heavy spice. I also came away with local advice.
Lunch with some heat
At Mongolia Grill on October 13, my request was straightforward: heavy on the spice. My notes put the meal at about thirty-seven dollars before the tip; I paid fifty altogether. Those are the figures from that visit.
The food is one part of the memory. The conversation with the cook is the other. Along with the meal came tips about Lost Lake.

The person behind the meal
I like that kind of exchange. You arrive with one immediate purpose—get something to eat—and leave with another possibility for your day. A person who knows the area can point your attention somewhere a menu never will.
That does not mean I am claiming a Lost Lake adventure here. The tip itself belongs in the story. Travel is full of possibilities people hand you, and not all of them have to become a completed itinerary to be valuable.
Grifter’s Takeaway
Ask for what you like, and listen to the person making it. The conversation can add something the menu cannot.
