More Better Good: Progress while You’re Still Figuring It Out

GRIFTER’S TALES

Practical notes · Colin Lee MacLeod

“More Better Good” is a useful name for making something, learning from it and improving the next version. It fits the way this site is growing: stories, guides and recipes built one piece at a time.

Make the next version concrete

Choose a small result you can actually inspect. A written introduction, a clear photograph or one tested recipe is easier to improve than an idea that remains entirely in your head. Give the work a shape, then read it or use it as someone else would.

Notice what is missing

Progress does not require pretending that unfinished work is complete. A recipe can remain a labelled draft while its quantities are checked. A story can wait for the person who lived it to supply the details. Knowing what is missing gives the next session a purpose.

Improve one useful thing

Fix the broken link, simplify the instruction or replace the unclear image. Keep a short note of what changed and what still needs attention. Small improvements become meaningful when they help someone use the work.

Keep the purpose in view

The Grifter’s Code gives the project its direction: Help yourself by helping other people more. A better page is one that gives a reader something useful, whether that is a meal they can cook, a story worth reading or a next step they can take.
