06 / SQUAMISH AND ROOM TO BREATHE

WELCOME TO SQUAMISH

Squamish felt quieter, more rustic and easier to settle into than the city. The Chief gave the town a dramatic backdrop, but the moment that sold me was simpler: a comfortable lower bunk, a warm blanket and a peaceful nap at Squamish Adventure Inn. My verdict was five stars. I felt comfortable in town, and I would go back.

A MORE PERSONAL REASON TO STOP

My father, James Joseph “Jimmy” MacLeod, was connected with the Ninety-Niner Diner near Britannia Beach. A conversation in a barbershop brought up someone who said he remembered him. That was a lead, not the end of the story. Sometimes a place matters because it gives you another question to follow.

ADVENTURE INN / 5 OUT OF 5

A cozy, restful lower bunk, a warm blanket and a peaceful nap. The town felt comfortable and scenic. I would gladly return.

SKYLYNX / 5 OUT OF 5

Our bus experience earned full marks for charging points, tables and a washroom. This is our firsthand trip rating, not a promise about every coach.

WHITE SPOT DINNER

Roast turkey meal: CAD $26. Approximately CAD $40 in total with a small pale ale. Basic food, but it hit the spot; friendly service and a perfectly enjoyable beer.

CHANCES CASINO

Limited slots and no table games during our visit. Disappointing for us, and not one we would recommend on that experience.

LEAVE SPACE FOR A CONVERSATION

A barbershop can become more than a place for a haircut. Ask a genuine question, listen, and let people choose how much to share. A remembered story about a family member can offer a lead worth exploring, but it is not the same as a confirmed historical fact.

FOUR FINGER RULE / PROBLEM → NEED → REQUEST

Hostel: The upper bunk is difficult for me. I need a lower bunk. “Could I have a lower bunk, please?”

Restaurant: I don’t know what food is available. I need the menu. “Could I see the menu, please?”
